QuestionA brand new Gigabyte Laptop G5 MD bought online at Best Buy about 50+ days ago, fully charged battery does not work properly in battery standalone mode? In fact, the Laptop does not boot in standalone battery mode? Defeats the purpose of having Laptop?

- Answer this sounds like a defective unit or possibly a defective battery as i have never had this issue while there is a program to change the battery settings for computer usage like high performance etc this does not have any effect on the booting of windows or anything of that nature i would contact gigabyte for assistance their support takes a bit to get back to people but they are top notch!

- Answer all that is required is a phillips head screwdriver and some electronics knowledge and obviously the hard drive or ssd you wish to install there is a sata 2.5 inch drive bay for a sata based ssd or hdd and a m.2 ssd drive bay for installing another ssd other than the one it comes with

- Answer This laptop is highly upgradeable and if your old laptop's drive is an M.2 yes, there are extra places to install it. Alternatively you can buy a fairly cheap external dock for an M.2 drive (get the right version) and you can clone/copy your old drive to an m.2 and transfer it. I would also install more RAM. You might be able to install an older SSD drive...just not sure, but I would buy the external dock. It is always useful for drive recoveries from a dead PC, and means you can keep your old drive on a shelf as a recovery drive.

- Answer no you will not void warranty by simply upgrading the ram as it is not modifying the physical electronics in any way for example cutting up the motherboard and gluing it back together

- Answer the gigabyte g5 md has 4 cooling fans with cooling pipes throughout to minimize heat as much as possible it also comes with clevo control center preinstalled or available through the microsoft store to change the speed of the fans if you wish to do so altho it does do it automatically when it senses that things are getting to hot

- Answer hi there! it is to my understanding that the power supply only runs on 220v you may be able to get a adapter from another website to make it run off your countries power type tho

- Answer hi there! you can change the volume with the keys on the keyboard by pressing and holding the fn key and then pressing f5 to toggle volume down or f6 to toggle volume up the same thing can be done to toggle the screen brightness with f8 and f9 simply hold the fn key and press the desired key to raise or lower brightness hope this helps!

QuestionWhat would be a good Ips 24'' 1080p 1ms monitor for this.. Best I read it does not support gsync. Makes my head hurt trying to figure out freesync gsync activesync- neither? Will this run an external at 144hz? I cannot find any such detailed info.

- Answer Hi Ezeht, The laptop supports monitors with G-sync, and Nvidia has enabled gsync compatibility with AMD Freesync monitors as well, so the laptop is compatible with both. Hope this helps! - John

- Answer hi there! unfortunately most laptops this one included cannot be overclocked due to the multiplier being locked while you can use software to permanently boost the clocks to a higher speed it isnt really a permanent overclock solution and isnt recommended as it can significantly degrade the lifespan of the processors to upgrade the bios visit the gigabyte webpage for the laptop model and download the zipped folder for fb10 and flash it after reading the instructions ITS VERY IMPORTANT YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS EXACTLY OR YOU COULD DAMAGE YOUR DEVICE!!!!

QuestionI updated the laptop and it didn't continue now I'm stuck where I need an installing disc to continue option, and when I do try f3 f8 and f12 it says "failed to restart pc,well restart it for you" what do I do?

- Answer you need to perform a factory reset via advanced options recovery mode please power on and off the laptop rapidly if done correctly after so many times of doing this it will boot to a screen that says preparing automatic repair and run through a repair test to fix boot issues it may or may not fail if it does fail click the more options button on the blue screen this will take you to the windows recovery environment from here click advanced options and then reset this pc hope this helps!

- Answer it is to my understanding that the 500 dollar deal was a significant markdown to clear out the remaining inventory around the holidays and to get rid of remaining stock as this particular model is not sold in stores any longer while it may still be available online at places like newegg or amazon best buy target walmart and other retailers no longer carry it online or in store hope this clears up the confusion!
