Yes, I do this all the time. For example chromecast will stream just one tab or youtube video but you can certainly switch tabs or work on something else without interrupting playback on your TV

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, the Chromecast extension for Chrome allows you to select a specific tab to be cast on the screen, leaving you free to do other things on the computer. Honestly though, I haven't attempted it since the extension first became active as a Beta option, so it was a bit laggy and buggy at that time. Of course, you can cast movies to the TV using smartphones and tablets as well, so that's an guaranteed easier option.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Absolutely! Chromecast works in the background, whichever Chromecast app/site you are using can be minimized while you use other windows.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, using Chrome browser, only the tab that has Netflix open will cast, you only cast one tab at a time, meanwhile you can jump between your other open tabs without interfering playback.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, put your laptop in a mode to extend your desktop and run the netflix app on your tv screen. If it is mirroring your laptop screen, function f2 or function and a F-key with a picture of two boxes on it usually does the trick.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, once you start the movie/show on the chromecast you could turn your laptop off and it will still play. It is only using your laptop as a remote to start streaming and no longer needs it unless you want to pause, stop, rewind, etc the movie. If you are casting via Chrome tab it will only cast that one tab.
