QuestionDoes this work independent of Nest Secure? That is, using the sensor and app only, can I still get notifications?

- Answer No. Sorry the Nest Guard is required as a hub for all of the security sensors. So far we are very happy with the system.

QuestionIf windows or doors are replaced, can the Detect be easily moved to the new window or door, or will a replacement need to be purchased?

- Answer Yes they are very easy to move and relocate. They come with extra sticky pads and hardware to move if needed.

- Answer Yes you can configure the option called open tones on each sensor independently to give an audible tone when triggered and the alarm is disarmed.

QuestionMy doors open outward so the door frame and door create an L shape and the door is not flush to the molding/frame. Is the magnet able to connect to the sensor at any angle or does it have to be a specific side.

- Answer That shouldn’t be a issue, my sensors aren’t flush together. During setup they have you test the connection and they need to be within a couple inches of each other.

QuestionCan this be bought and put on a sliding door. Will it make an audible sound or notification to my phone if opened? Or do i have to buy something else with it to get these features?

- Answer I have 3 of them on sliding glass doors. They are very easy to install. You can set up the system to give you an audible sound when doors are opened on the base station, it will not give you a notification on your phone unless the alarm is set.

Questionif you dont pay for a monthly monitoring service, will the nest call the police if the alarm is triggered?

- Answer You have to pay for the service, which is through Brinks, to get emergency services. Kind of disappointing because you also pay for nest aware so you have two subscriptions to worry about.

QuestionCan I use this motion sensor independent of the entire security system? I don't think I need the full alarm system only motion sensors at the sliding balcony door and front entry door. I already have the nest egg for my smart lock.

- Answer No, this will require the Nest Secure Alarm System, to work and use all of the features of the sensor.

QuestionCan you set these so that it just alerts you on your phone if a door is opened but doesn't set off alarm? So I could see what time my kids got home off bus by the notification of them opening the door but I wouldn't want the alarm to go off.

- Answer I used mine in this fashion. I do subscribe to the Brinks security, just the nest aware. I leave the Nest secure on "Not Guarding" or you can put it on "Home Guard" and you will be notified by push notifications. I would recommend a camera as well. You can talk to them via the camera as well as see them. The google homes are great for that too but...

QuestionI have windows that are shallow and do not allow space for Nest Detect sensors. Does anyone know of a window sensor that is skinnier and “works with Nest”?

- Answer You can ask or request for a slim magnet. Or less carve out a small notch in the window frame to a ugly fit the magnet in

- Answer If you tell the Nest app that you are placing it on a window, by default the Nest app will disable the motion detector. I'm sure you could tell it that it is being placed on a door to enable the motion detector. To directly answer your question, if the notion sensor is blocked by the blinds, then yes it will interfere with the sensor.

- Answer Depending on your layout of windows and doors in the room you may be able to optimize the number of sensors. For example, in my case I had a patio door and 2 windows across from the door. I installed the nest detect on the door such that now it is able to cover the door open close as well as windows for any movement. This way I did not need to put 2 additional sensors on the windows. You have to test out your layout to make sure that the range of motion which is typically 12-15 feet is sufficient to cover the entry points you are looking to secure.

- Answer If self-monitored, it'll sound the siren + send notification on your app + turn on Nest camera (if you have one). If professionally monitored, Professional Monitoring from MONI is now available. $19/m (3-year contract, includes 24x7 monitoring + cellular back) OR $29/m (no contract, 24x7 monitoring + cellular backup). In this case Sensors will trigger the Siren + Let the MONI monitoring center know about the breach + Send notification. And, mostly MONI will call you &/or emergency contact. I bought the starter pack from MONI for $299 + $19/m professional monitoring. Doesn't beat that IMO :)
