Q: QuestionHow do we set the nest thermostat so that it only does the temp we set here and now --and doesn't go off on it's own resetting itself to what it thinks we want.

• A:Answer No. They don't have to be the same generation, the generation is just a little more advance software, but mostly the same. You can add all of them under same app and same control functions.

Q: QuestionI recently bought the Nest 3rd Generation Learning Thermostat, but I have yet to install it. I just have a heat system with 3 zones in my house, and have 3 Taco Zone Valves. I only have a red and white wire at the stat location. Do I need a c-wire?

• A:Answer We don't have a whole house humid (I'm assuming you mean it's part of the furnace system?) I would assume it does/can because it tracks humidity. Obviously check with your installer.

• A:Answer It can for many systems. I have a furnace only with a two wire thermostat and it is compatible. No C wire needed. You would need to contact nest support to make sure yours is compatible.

• A:Answer Because it's all done via your phone it doesn't matter. You can change it while you're away. Or just go into the schedule and set up an away schedule for when you're gone and change it back when you get home. You can also change the "away" settings and leave it on away while you're gone. Lots of options. But no, there's no selection called vacation.

• A:Answer The Nest Learning Thermostat is engineered to use very little power: So, even though Nest thermostats have sensors, displays, and more, they typically don't need a C wire to stay charged up. It uses the voltage from your system’s wires to keep its internal battery charged. However, if it's not getting enough power from your system, you will be needing to install C wire to have it's own source of power.
