No it will not specifically detect natural gas. However, a byproduct of natural gas is CO. The Nest Protect will notify you if CO levels are rising to a dangerous level. But again, this is not a multi gas meter. It will not detect natural gas levels.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I had a hard to find gas leak. Wound up being the gas meter diaphragm was damaged. It was bad enough that under the right circumstances I’d get headaches and the house stunk. My nest did zippo. My seperate co detector did alert, but couldn’t understand why until now. Get a plug in co alarm and a gas detector. They can be cheap ones. Still love my nest system, but the gas detection is a massive hole in protection, and co detector stinks.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I would not trust the nest to do so, it can detect the byproduct when burnt or exposed to heat, however it shouldn't be considered reliable for gas leaks especially when you are talking about your family or pets' safety. Get an explosive gas detector for this. In terms of the nest detecting CO2 it does a great job at it, along with smoke.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes. Nest Protect has a Carbon monoxide sensor that detects Carbon monoxide (CO) even when fuels don’t burn completely, or are exposed to heat (usually fire). These fuels include: wood, coal, charcoal, oil, natural gas, gasoline, kerosene, and propane.
