- Answer Nest Protect will continuously chirp when its batteries are critically low and when it has expired. QuestionWe have Nest carbon monoxide/smoke detectors in our house and garage but how will we know when it's going off? We both are deaf. Anyway for lights to change color or to alert us? We got it installed in 2017 and 2020 in garage. Thank you

- Answer Hi Bird, Nest Protect gives you an early warning that smoke or carbon monoxide (CO) levels are rising. When Nest Protect senses smoke or carbon monoxide below emergency levels, it will pulse yellow and will also send you a mobile notification on your smartphone or tablet. When smoke or carbon monoxide (CO) reach emergency levels, Nest Protect will pulse red, make a loud sound, and tell you what and where the emergency is. Nest Protect will also send you a mobile notification.

- Answer Both wired and battery operated Nest Protect work with Nest Learning Thermostat. Your Nest Protect will send a signal to shut off the thermostat during emergencies. Communication between the two devices relies on an active account in the Nest App and both should be connected to the internet. - Answer They replace the hard wired requirement if you're using the 2018 NEC code. 2018 has an option for battery powered.

- Answer Unfortunately, it can't. Your Nest Protect uses its Thread connection exclusively for syncing alarms, and spoken alerts between all Protects. However, they won’t be able to extend the Wi-Fi range of the other Google Nest devices in your home. - Answer Nest Protect Peak CO levels, during CO alarms, range from 70 parts per million (ppm) to 1,964 ppm, with a median of 142 ppm based on field studies. After a CO event, Nest Protect will tell you the highest level of CO that it detected. You can find the peak CO level in Protect History. Nest Protect is not a low-level carbon monoxide monitor and will alert you to carbon monoxide only in a Heads Up or Emergency Alarm event.

- Answer The batteries for the wired version of the Nest Protect are required for safety in the event of a power outage in your home. These batteries are only used to set up the Nest Protect and as a backup power source.

- Answer I don't think there's an advantage other than everything just comes in a single box. All of the Nest Protects will be interconnected through the Nest app regardless of when or how you bought them.

QuestionI would like to purchase the Nest Protect Wired system, but we cannot wire it in until a couple renovations to the home are complete. Can I use them only in battery power and wire them in at a later date?

- Answer NEST Protect comes in two models, Wired and Battery. Unfortunately these are an either or setup not and.. If you buy batter powered you cannot set it up in a wired setup. I will say the batteries that come with it last a very very long time. I installed the Nest a couple of years ago and only replaced batteries once. If you have the nigh light feature on it may reduce to like once a year depending but the battery setup is very solid.

Nest Protect uses different sensors to detect smoke and carbon monoxide (CO). Nest Protect detects carbon monoxide (CO), an odorless, colorless and potentially deadly gas. - Answer You only need the Nest Protect, a smartphone, and WiFi. No other Nest product needed. You'll have to install the Nest app on your phone. It's dead simple to set up because it walks you through the process. The hardest part (not that hard) is mounting it on your ceiling.

- Answer You can install Nest Protect smoke detector as part of your Google Home smart home system or as a stand-alone smoke detector. You can't add Nest Protect into your security system, but it can function as usual on its own and you can monitor it in the Nest app remotely.

QuestionWill this continue to work in an unheated garage. Living in ND it can get to -30 degrees during the winter. From experience batteries and what not can cease operation from the cold.

- Answer As per the instructions, these are NOT meant for installation in a garage. I would put on in there as well and intended to but the possibility of emissions from cars would set them off non-stop I would imagine.
