• Hello, I purchased two of the Nest thermostats for my home and installed them where my old ones were located... about chest-height. I have noticed that the display lights up when I step in front of it. I doubt that the sensors will pick up movement from small children or dogs unless they can reach up to the height of the thermostat. I hope that helps.

• The Nest will not see the dogs unless you have it mounted at knee height! What I do is set the away temp at 60 when the dogs are at home, and 55 when they are not at the house.
