In the settings that I have it lists three options. Under Verizon its using global which is cdma and GSM but it also has options to do just one or the other. Never seen that in settings before on any other phone. I believe it just depends on what carrier you're through. I know ATT is GSM where I am if its not unlocked. If you pay the 1 time payment you could use either and any carrier it seems. Hope that helps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Currently at the time of writing this this phone if purchased anywhere other than google directly is locked to Verizon in the US. You can buy it from google directly unlocked and it should work on all major carriers according to there website. Meaning that the phone should work on GSM network as long as they have LTE.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It is CDMA. It is not unlocked and thus it is not compatible with GSM-providers such as AT&T. See screenshots from “Specifications” section attached. This is why it is marketed by Verizon, which uses Qualcomm’s patented 4G LTE technologies (= CDMA, which ensures your text messages and videos are posted seamlessly through different radio frequency bands depending on traffic levels and almost always can avoid interference), despite the intersection of peak growth in bandwidth demand and limited RF spectrum available to transmit so much data over the RF spectrum. GSM on the other hand does not belong to anyone — it is an “open standards based” system used primarily by AT&T and T-Mobile. To connect consumers and businesses etc to the requisite network infrastructure and send their packages over the World Wide Web, these companies rely on the (in my humble opinion) somewhat less advanced, GSM. Today, QUALCOMM is doing the same thing it did to get us past the 4G wall (can you imagine using 2G, hard to even fathom) but pushing on onto 5G — critical to the successful transition to the next frontier of computing (for edge computing, internet of things, driverless cars and so forth).
