The point is you save $50 since it is a pre-order. I just purchased one, and my current phone still works. Once you get the new phone, say August 24th, you transfer your data to the Pixel 4a and that then becomes your phone. So purchasing it now doesn't affect your current phone until you switch over.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I think when you choose Activate Now, you have to pick a carrier (T-mobile, Verizon, etc) and you are then "locked" into that carrier with that phone. That's the reason for the $50 discount. If you choose Activate Later, you receive an unlocked phone that can be used with any carrier you may choose. Since the Pixel phones work with both CDMA and GSM technology, they can be used with just about any carrier out there. You can get a locked phone unlocked when it's paid for and your contract, if any, is expired. But you have to go thru your carrier to do that.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I just did this with a different phone and "Activated now" and nothing happens until you get your new phone and do the switch over with your phone service provider. The instructions are I believe included with the new phone and definitely on the web site of your service provider.
