The following steps have been reported to work, but some users get an error message and the process fails. You might try... TurboTax software returns have the file extension .tax20XX. Users are given the opportunity to save the return created with TurboTax Online to your computer as a .tax20XX file. If you did not do that, the return cannot be imported into the software. Here are the steps to import. Open the H&R Block software and at the My Taxes screen, select Start A Return. Click Next at the screen titled Smart Import. (This page may not appear for the 2012-2016 product) At the screen titled Import Last Year's Taxes (titled Smart Import: Import Last Year's Taxes in 2012 and prior), highlight a file to import and click Import Selected File. If the file to import data from is not displayed, use the Browse button. Locate the folder where last year's file is stored, select the .tax20XX file and click Open to display the file in the menu. Note: If the file has the extension .tax instead, find the file on the computer, right click it and rename the extension to .tax20XX (replace XX with the correct year, for example .tax2012). Name the return, and click Save and Continue. To view what has been imported click Review Last Year's Data from the Reports menu.
