A:Answer Robert, this Haier washing machine has an agitator disc at the very bottom of the washer tub. This is turned (pulsed) at 'washer cycle' preset rotational speeds in opposite directions to create an effect of a whirlpool in the washer tub. Please note each washer CYCLE adjusts the speed of rotation; duration time for each pulse and lag time spent between pulses due to water level/clothes/cycle selected. This machine will do a good job provided you do not overload the machine. Overloading this style of washer can cause tangling, but it can be minimized. (Many people state that a front loader is better. Clothes tumble into the water in the drum- However front loaders cost more, usually run longer cycle times due to the fact that they are using very small amounts of water.) For the Haier, this machine gives you many choices for cycle, soil level, quick wash, extra rinse and so forth. I chose the simple controls and fair price for this machine; Best Buy did have a good price at around 475.oo
