Depends on what you mean by "tank". You can't submerge the actual coffeemaker in water, but you can submerge the reservoir (where the brewed coffee ends up) and the filter basket. The area where you initially put in fresh water is not much different than any other coffeemaker...you may be able to spray a household cleaner on a rag and wipe it clean but it's not detachable from the main "guts" of the unit so it can't get soaked.
