It certainly can but the instructions say you should cut large items into small pieces first, probably so that it chops more evenly. If you are OK with very small (minute) pieces of cabbage then it would do a great job very quickly. But if you want larger pieces (quarter-sized), then I would hand-chop rather than use this machine.
