The HD Homerun connects to your router. You would not need to connect the antenna to your TV unless you also want to be able to tune channels using the TV's tuner.

Please try again later.Here is how I connected the devices as follows using a antenna splitter: 1) Attached the antenna to the splitter at the top. 2) Attached the HDHomerun to the one of the other two splitter connections at the bottom. 3) Ran a cable from the TV to the other splitter connection at the bottom. 4) Attached the HDHomerun to the router. I connected the TV to the splitter because how I use the TV when I am away from home from a security standpoint. The instructions in the box have you connecting it to the antenna and the network router. To take advantage or use the DVR function you must connect to the internet. I have two TV's and I am using one antenna, the second TV has an Amazon FireTV Stick attached to the HDMI port, using the HDHomerun android program to connect to the HDHomerun using my Ethernet network. Both of my TV's are connected to the Ethernet network including the three computers, two tablets and two smart phones. I have downloaded the HDHomerun program for each device which allows me to watch live TV throughout the home with one antenna.

Please try again later.The HDHomeRun Connect does need to connect to your router and a PC, laptop, or wireless device that can run the app will need to run the initial setup to scan for channels. The second part of the question, I think you are explaining that your TV has a tuner and it is connected to the antenna? If that is true and your TV can install the HDHomerun app then it will not need a direct connection to the antenna. The TV will stream the channels from the HDHomeRun device.
