Conclusion: Yes this TV does not have HDMI 2.1 hdmi ports. However, it does deliver HDR10 an DolbyVision directly connecting to AppleTV (I had to use 48 gbps premium Belkin 2.1 cables though). Even using these expensive cables I could not get HDR10 and DolbyVision using my Yamaha RX-V465 AV in between TV and AppleTV. Keith at Yamaha solved this issue and they now both work fine. Following the settings menu on this TV, you won’t see the “HDMI Format” option (which you must change to Enhanced), UNLESS you: 1. Press the INPUT key on the remote 2. Press ARROW key several times until you highlight the AV device (my Yamaha) 3. Then you MUST press the little “three lines in a box” MENU key on the remote. (It’s just below my volume key on the left and above the Netflix key) 4. Press the ARROW key down to “HDMI Format” and select “Enhanced Format” and press OK (This MENU is very well hidden!) Bottomline: this TV does 4K, HDR10, and DolbyVision with AppleTV, both with and without my Yamaha AV. (And that’s the only good reason we ask about hdmi 2.1, right?) It’s an amazing 4K TV, at an amazingly cheap price. I’m extremely happy with this television. Sorry for the many long posts but I hope it saves someone the same trouble. And thanks to Keith at Yamaha support!

When I used premium High Speed with Ethernet (my 18 gbps Monster) HDMI cables, I got Atmos and 4K SDR (only). I had to “over-cable” with the expensive “certified Belkin Ultra HD High Speed HDMI 2.1 Cable, 48 gbps” to get 4K HDR and 4K Dolby Vision. (The AppleTV has HDMI tests to verify whether SDR/HDR/DolbyVision works or not. Note: Even with a second Belkin HDMI cable and connecting AppleTV thru the AV, my 2.1 HDMI firmware upgraded Yamaha AV did not give me better than 4K SDR (neither active, nor passive when AV was off). But I have Atmos with this TV and will stick with SDR connecting thru my AV. Hope this info is useful.

I couldn’t get my AppleTV (built-in) tests to work with full 4K HDR or HDR10. AppleTV tests did achieve 4K SDR (Standard Dynamic Range) which is fine. The AppleTV support page suggests that High Speed 4K HDMI cables with Ethernet are not gong to give you the speed for HDR10. However, it says to use something like “certified Belkin Ultra HD High Speed HDMI 2.1 Cable, Optimal Viewing for Apple TV and Apple TV 4K, Dolby Vision HDR cables”. I don’t need HDR10, just Atmos (which DOES work with standard high speed with Ethernet hdmi cables)..so happy as is. But I will likely buy 1 or 2 of these 2.1 hdmi cables to get the HDR10, just for fun. (Conclusion: This is an HDR10 TV without HDMI 2.1, yet delivers Atmos via the earc hdmi port, but it seems it can deliver HDR10 only with certified 2.1 high speed Ultra HD hdmi cables.).
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. There’s conflicting info online such as “HDMI eARC though usually requires a HDMI 2.1 port…but there are exceptions”. And there is “HDMI 2.0b” and some proprietary ARC tweaks by the manufacturer. After getting this home today, yes, I’m getting DD Atmos input to my Yamaha AV from this TV. (Used High Speed HDMI cables with Ethernet.) Curiously, I didn’t even activate EARC in the TV settings. Sweet…so whatever HDMI tweaks they’ve done, they work fine. So while the HDMI’s on this TV are not 2.1, they are getting the job done & I am super happy.
