• Absolutely not, but you will have to download the 'Home App' to a phone or tablet in order to get it hooked up to your wireless network. This is all free, but you will need to create a Google account if you don't already have one.

• There is no fee to use. You do have to have the Google Home App installed on your mobile phone to set it up. I find it way more intuitive than Alexa. I own 4 Alexa Dots and 1 Google home mini. I will be buying more Google home mini's soon.
