A:Answer This dehumidifier is very quiet for a dehumidifier. We have it running in our basement next to the bottom of the stairway, and you can barely hear it running from the top of the basement stairs. Granted, it does still make some noise, but it's a fairly low hum. I'd say maybe on a par with a fan on low speed. So unless you're a person who is sensitive to any noise, this should be quite acceptable.
Regarding the heat, my unit has been running almost nonstop since the last major storm we had that flooded our basement (about a month ago), and it is cool to the touch on all sides. It blows air out the vent at the top, and that feels lukewarm at best, or just barely cool.
