If it was raining outside, that shouldn't matter unless you are operating the unit outside, WHICH YOU SHOULD NOT BE DOING for obvious reasons!! I'm not sure if you shorted the unit out because it was leaking likely from the base.. but you can try letting it dry out and then fixing the source of the leak. For me, it was at the nebulizer where it interfaces with the base of the unit, and this video shows you how to fix it.
