Minerals within tap water can sometimes interfere with the workings of humidifiers and vaporizers. Don't quote me, but that is what I was told. When I filled my humidifier with distilled water and turned it on, it started misting within a few seconds.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Be sure to check that the unit is sitting squarely on the base. I had a similar experience, however once I jiggled the top to the bottom so that it fit squarely, the unit came on within 5-10 seconds.
