I used this Honeywell humidifier almost daily for 2 months (late winter + early spring), and I used tap water which resulted in accumulation of white mineral dust. I also cleaned the unit after each refill. I should have used distilled water, but I was lazy :( I'm not sure if I have hard water in this area (Northern Oregon). This humidifier doesn't use a filter as it is ultrasonic (no fan), not the evaporative kind of humidifier.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The best solution to this regardless of tap water you use calcium build up will always happen on the heating block. Use white vinegars to dissolve the build up. I fill the reservoir to cover the element for at least 1 hour and it lossens the mineral, using a small toothbrush to finish cleaning. How often you need to do this is based on the mineral content of your water

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Thank you for your inquiry. You do not need to use distilled water. This unit boils the water, so the minerals are left behind in the heating chamber. If you use distilled water, you may need to clean the unit less often.
