Yes the fill hole basically is a 1 -2 inch tube leading to the reservoir. However it does have a medium sized "splash-tray" for placing ice which melts and runs down the tube. I suppose you could unscrew a side and put the ice directly into the reservoir, but you would need to be careful the ice doesn't displace too much water and cause the pump to run dry. I am skeptical that ice causes a significant drop in temperature anyway, it probably does, but worth the effort? Cool pads versus cold pads I guess.
