Hello, Thanks for reaching out. Here's an explanation on how the Hot Start function works. How it Works: It actually heats the tub, spray arms, dishes, (prior to the main wash cycle) allowing proper cleaning without affecting the energy label. Once selected, approximately 1-1/2 gallons of water enters the tub, circulates in the tub for 5 mins and then drains. This helps to purge cold water that may be in the line. Then another 1-1/2 gallons of water enters the tub and circulates for approx. 15 to 20 minutes and then drains. The heating element is on during this period of Auto HotStart (or HotStart), heating up the water and the tub. After this option is run, the dishwasher will automatically go into the cycle that has been selected. NOTE: On TouchTap (Nautilus) control models, in order to activate the HotStart option, you must select the button on the left and turn the dial to the appropriate position. On Non-TouchTap control models, simply turn the dial to the appropriate position. We hope this helps! Mike@GEA
