That does not mean that it cannot be upgraded, but that it requires extra tools and the technical knowledge to do so. In this case for such a unit you would want to contact either HP Support or Geek Squad to see if they have any options to upgrade it.

On these consumer-targeted laptops, self-improvement is not encouraged, but is often possible nonetheless (although it may void the warranty). If you search a specific PC on YouTube, you will often find videos showing how to open and upgrade it. I've done it myself on another laptop; it's a bit harrowing, with tiny parts and the process has to be followed in order, but it's doable. I replaced the HDD with a SSD, changed the battery, and even found there was space enough to put in a new optical recorder.
