You can exit out of S Mode, and it is free, and easy, although not a real "upgrade" in the usual sensse. Moving to Pro from Home, however, is definitely an upgrade, and will cost you, usually about $100. If you shop around, you may find a deal on this; for instance, some companies will sell the upgrade for less by including a piece of hardware, thus aligning with Microsoft Corp.'s requirements.
