Hi Dale, thank you for the question. DVD drives (optical drives) have gradually been eliminated from laptop designs. Most music, movies and computer software is being delivered to the consumer over the Internet instead of on discs these days, making optical drives unnecessary. Omitting the optical drive lets the computer manufacturers build laptops that are smaller, lighter and less expensive than they would have to be if the drive was included. There are still optical drives (or the option to add one) on desktop computers, but the best solution for a laptop is to use an external DVD drive. External optical drives are widely available and very affordable.
