Windows 11 Home S Mode is a "protected" Windows 11 that only allows you to download apps or programs from the Microsoft Store and use the Microsoft Edge browser. This keeps you "protected" from viruses and malware but limits the apps or programs you may want to use, such as the Google Chrome browser. It is easy to switch out of S Mode (google "switching out of Windows S Mode" and follow the easy instructions), but you cannot switch back into S Mode once you switch out (you probably won't want to switch back anyway). Hope this helps!

It exclusively runs apps from the Microsoft Store. If you want to install an app that isn't available in the Microsoft Store, you'll need to switch out of S mode. This is a free and simple conversion, and not reversible.

The S mode means that you have to download software from the Microsoft Store and can't install software off of the internet with it. It is quite easy to download a small piece of software from the Microsoft store that will turn off S mode. Then you can install whatever you want on it. Just bring up the Microsoft Store App and search for "Switch out of S Mode.
