The HP 60XL Tri-color ink cartridge contains approximately twice as much ink as the standard HP 60 Tri-color ink cartridge, while the HP 60XL Black ink cartridge contains approximately three times as much ink as the standard HP 60 ink cartridge.

For the HP60 black ink is 200 pages printed and the HP60 xl black ink gives you 600 pages printed. The HP60 color ink gives you 165 pages printed and the HP60 xl color ink gives you 440 pages printed. If you do alot of printing the HP60 xl in black or color ink is the better buy. I use the fast draft black and white a lot at least in the beginning. If you use the best copy option you will get fewer copies. Tri-color is just that color - no black. You need both if you want to print in color.
