• Hello. Thanks for your question. Yes, if only the black ink cartridge is empty or low on the HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 All-in-One Printer. You can just change that ink cartridge. If some or all of the ink cartridges are very low or empty. You will need to have some ink in all of the ink cartridges to print anything. This helps protect the printhead.
