Almost all inkjet cartridges will dry out especially if they are not used daily. And the warmer the room in which your printer is located, the faster the ink cartridge in it will dry out during periods of no use. Perhaps try removing the ink cartridge from the printer and storing it in a sealed airtight bag is way from heat and sunlight if you are not going to print using it for a week or more, such as while on a vacation.

You can make the cartridges last as long as possible by making sure that you either turn the printer off with the printer's power button or letting the printer go into "sleep" mode. Either of those things will cap the printheads, which almost eliminates the amount of air the heads are exposed to. Also, you can print a page or two every couple of weeks.
