The M227FDN uses a physical keyboard panel with small keys to input info into the printer while the M227FDW uses a 2.7" digital touch screen very similar to a cell phone to make selections. It is thus easier to use as it offers choices based on a common input technology. The M227FDW also has a USB port on the front face which allows you to insert a USB stick containing a document file to print. It also allows you to not only print to the cloud, but also directly to an email, while the M227FDN lacks the USB port and will only allow printing to the cloud but not to an email.
