Great question. The difference is that the m477fdw does automatic 2-sided printing and has NFC touch-to-print capabilities and the m477fnw has manual 2-sided printing and no NFC. Here is the link to a great document that compares the two printers side by side: http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/GetPDF.aspx/4AA6-1074EEP.pdf I hope this helps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.the "fdw" stands for the model that has full function duplexing. The "fnw" will duplex, but it prints the odd numbered pages first and then you just take the stack of copies and put them (same direction) into the paper tray and hit OK for it to finish the duplex.

It does have wireless. It offers HP Wi-Fi direct, HP E-Print, and other Wireless options for printing wirelessly. For the extra expense, it is worth purchasing the fdw for it's more added capabilities then lesser grade models of the LaserJet pro mfp 400 series printers. After the first year or so of having one of these printers I purchased another one of the exact same model for my wife so we're not tying up two printers with the amount of printing that we do. LaserJet printers are definitely the way to go versus inkjet if you're doing more printing and more professional prints especially for small business printing contract, letterheads, brochures, and hundreds of other reason as well as conservation of toner versus ink, (which has an expiration date mind you and can dry up on you inside the cartridge and not give you anywhere near as much use dollar for dollar, cartridge for cartridge). The laser Jack toner is much more expensive upfront then an inkjet ink refill especially if you choose HP brand toner. But you're talkin also 2 thousand copies vs. amount of copies color ink cartridge. I think it's less than 1/3 if you go with the extra large toner cartridges which are more expensive but even for moderate year for my small business they last about 8 to 10 months for myself. But yes the fdw model is the best of the 400 series mfp color LaserJet HP printers and it does so 100% guaranteed, offer there's Wireless uses for printing from pretty much any device.
