It will continue to print when the color cartridges run out to complete any current printing jobs. It will not continue to print this way for longer periods. If you wish to sometimes print with only black cartridges installed (or always), choose an Envy Photo 7855. The Envy Photo 7855 is a great document printer, and prints in single cartridge mode for using black ink only.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If you set the printer option to print in black only when you go to print, it will not matter that the color cartridges are low. It will only print using black ink.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. My case it was the opposite as I was low on black ink and replaced it just before cartridge was emptied. HP 8025e noticed there was a non HP cartridge installed (Smart Ink). Sometimes I will go to Best Buy and occassionally grab the HP OEMs Ink when in dire need. Well, what do you know, HP 8025e printed almost a full page in all colors then suddenly the black ink stopped printing...oh, wait, this just remembers this is a new cartridge so it stops and thinks and does not move. This is a full "tank" of ink in this new Smart Ink cartridge!!! Now this relatively new HP printer is starting to be a pain in the rear, but as you know, HP printers are hit and miss. After I carefully cleaned the carriage underneath and the bottom of cartridge and ran the alignment sequence until finally it started printing black ink again. Sigh.
