You could. However, the computer has two 4 gigabyte modules taking up the two slots, so you'd have to buy two new 8 gigabyte modules to get to 16. If you have someone do the work, it would actually be cheaper to pay the extra $100 and get the one with 16 gigabytes already installed.

Its a 5 minute job to install and any normal person does not need to change bios settings. However the larger storage is were the payoff is as a good nvme drive at 1TB is 100 alone and that's on sale. So if the two laptops are only 100 difference for double the ram and storage,, and you need it. Go with the model up.
