I think it would be an excellent choice for a college student. It comes with a one-month trial of Microsoft 365, but I'd check with your college-they often have a deal with Microsoft that lets you purchase 365 for a lot less than retail. You can download the Teams app for free from the Microsoft store.

Are you concerned about battery life, because the student will be moving around all day? Does he/she need to run specific software that may not be generally used by other students, like CAD? Will he want to play some games/movies/music to relax in between studies? Is he a music major, and needs the best sound possible? The Teams app is available from Microsoft, for free, if that helps.
