I can only answer from my experience, and I found the setup process for this computer frustrating. I was mostly appalled because, even though I was setting this up for a friend, I was forced to create a Microsoft user, something I had avoided up to this point. In any case, I believe you have to decide whether or not you will be using the laptop in "safe" mode or not. Microsoft is attempting to emulate android and Apple by providing an application repository like Google Play or the Apple Store on their Windows platform. You are permitted to get apps exclusively from the Microsoft Store by default. If you want to install software from sources outside Microsoft's closed garden, you need to request that "safe" mode be turned off. You will find the instructions to do this online or in the local help files. Then you can install software normally from any source. I am relaying this from my experience, however, as I deleted my newly created Microsoft user right after breaking out of "safe" mode in order to install Skype and Libre Office. I did a quick search and found that you can whitelist an application in order to install it from outside the Microsoft Store. You need to do this because Zoom is not currently available in the Microsoft Store. Same solution should apply to Chrome if it is not also in the store. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. My daughter's computer had the same trouble setting up zoom. So a counselor who computer also was doing the same thing said to Go to "settings" and "Turn of S mode" and then it will work.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I encountered the same. Bought for my daughter for homeschooling and couldn't download Chrome, Chrome extensions, Zoom, etc. Mostly everything that she needed for school. I didn't realize when I bought the laptop that the Operating System: Windows in "S" Mode would block any apps that are not supported by MS Windows. Basically, they only want you to use MS apps exclusively. And that means they force you to use Microsoft Edge for web browsing (no Chrome) or the educational apps used by our school. Because I needed my child to just have a laptop and didn't have time to waste, and the price was affordable, I simply did what no one should ever really do, and I switched her laptop out of "S" mode so I could download chrome, chrome extensions, and zoom. Chromebook probably would have been a better option for her, when it came to accessing the apps she needed, but Chromebooks have a serious lag and a hindrance for her to finish her assignments in a timely manner.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You must go to the Microsoft Store and turn off S mode. Yes, I agree with some of the other posts that the setup process can be super annoying. It Is even more annoying turning off all of Microsoft's unneeded features, but you can not fault HP for that. Once all of Microsoft's invasive devices are turned off the laptop should be fine. If you want more speed, like running multiple things at once, buy more RAM, 4-8GB depending on what you have now. There should be 2 slots, so if you have 4Gb and buy 8Gb more, you can have 12Gb, and the laptop will run very fast.
