Unfortunately neither the Nexus 5x or 6P has expandable storage. However there is no bloatware from a mobile carrier, no manufacturer user interface (in this case no Huawei "EMUI"), and great Google cloud storage integration results in less initial space used for the stock Android operating system. I would recommend the highest storage capacity for developers, Launcher UI junkies & hardcore gamers. USB 3.0 to USB-C & direct wifi flash drives can be used as portable storage similar to a Micro SDcard. Google>Android>Nexus with OEM (Huawei for the 6P, LG for the 5x) = More available storage from the get go.
