No computer is immune from malware. Apple products have historically been a smaller portion of the market than Microsoft and thus had less exposure. The Mac OS is built with security as a central priority, however, security patches are issued from time to time. To me this means, vulnerabilities can still be found by bad actors. I have had an iMac for 8 years and prefer it to Windows machines. However, I would not operate it without anti- malware software.

No for Apple already has there antivirus protection built into this and you do not need to buy anything else, but you can if you wish. Good thing is for example you do not need to keep buying a yearly subscription to say like Norton anti virus 360 deluxe for this machine.
