I love this fan is does make a noise but not so loud you can't talk or hear the tv. Very solid and it reminds me of the old fans both in looks and sound.

It's in my daughter's bedroom and we only use on the lowest speed so I don't know what its like on high but the lowest speed is perfect for a smaller bedroom.

Out of the three settings only the highest lets you know it's even on which works well for mom who asked me to purchase this model. Maybe you could drop in a nearby store to test it out before you buy.

I have to turn the tv volume up higher to hear it over this fan than I did with the plastic fan I used to own. It seems like a nice solid fan though. I've only had it two days but it does cool well...wish they made a 12" version for a little more cooling power.
