Once a month, drizzle vegetable oil or cooking oil (nothing petroleum based) on a few pieces of paper and feed them through the shredder. This maintenance will keep the shredder working in tip top shape.

For lighter shredding, every 2-4 baskets is fine. The best oil to use is an actual shredder oil or 3-in-1 oil. Other types of oils can leave a residue which becomes sticky and can ultimately cause problems. Yes, I know that cooking oil is cheaper but... The pre-oiled sheets are convenient but the shredder oil or 3-in-1 oil are the best. You can oil the paper using a back and forth s style zigzag, lightly. Run a couple sheets through (I do one facing forward and one facing backward. After it is done, turn the machine on reverse and let it run for 30-60 seconds. You don't have to saturate the whole sheet or it will just make a mess. The other method is to lightly pour a thin ribbon and run it in forward for 10 seconds then run it in reverse for 30-60 seconds.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I use the sheets, oil is messy and drips, I get the shredder sheets at Staples. Every time I dump basket.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It's always a good idea to clean the blades of your shredder. I use shredder lubricant sheets, which you can get at any office supply store. You just put the sheet in the shredder (there are instructions on each sheet to show you how to insert the sheet) and run it through the shredder. Then you run the shredder in reverse for 10 seconds after the sheet is shredded. These are the instructions on the shredder lubricant sheets I have; a different brand of shredder lubricant sheets might have different instructions.
I would recommend:
