Yes no problem plugging in my DVD and VHS players

Yes. It has jacks for a VCR or DVD player. It also has audio outputs to add external speakers and inputs for high definition. It can be hooked up to cable or an external antenna to pick up stations over the air. I pick up several local stations without cable or antenna as I live close to local stations.
