  • QuestionWhat does this need for operation

    Asked by S.

    • Answer Thank you for your inquiry! To operate the Insignia™ 250 Sq. Ft. Portable Air Conditioner, you’ll need a few basic things in place. First, it requires a standard 115V grounded electrical outlet, which is typical in most homes—extension cords or power strips should be avoided for safety. The unit also comes with an exhaust hose and a window installation kit, which must be properly set up to vent hot air outside through a sliding window. For areas with high humidity, you might need to manually drain the collected water or attach a drain hose for continuous drainage. It’s important to place the unit with at least 20 inches of clearance around it to ensure proper airflow. Some models also include a remote control for added convenience. Keith | Insignia Support

That means it may not meet the energy efficiency standards required for Energy Star labeling.

  • QuestionI just bought it this morning, no water to empty and has the p1 code and doesn’t reset.

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer Thank you for your inquiry! If your Insignia™ 250 Sq. Ft. Portable Air Conditioner is showing a P1 error code right after purchase, even though there’s no water to drain, it likely means the unit’s internal water tank sensor is either triggered or malfunctioning. The P1 code typically indicates that the water collection tank is full, but sometimes this can happen even when it’s dry due to a stuck float sensor or a misread by the system. To troubleshoot, first unplug the unit for at least five minutes to reset it. Then, manually open the bottom drain plug to release any possible trapped moisture—this can also help reset the sensor. Even if no water comes out, this step is important. Check for any kinks or blockages in the drain path, and gently tilt the unit backward to help any residual water reach the sensor or drain outlet. After that, plug it back in and power it on. If the error persists, the float sensor may be stuck or faulty, and you may need to contact Insignia support or consider exchanging the unit, especially since it’s brand new. If you have further questions, please feel free to reach us via phone 1-877-467-4289 Monday-Saturday 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. CT. Keith | Insignia Support

  • QuestionIs it normal for for the AC to seem like it doesn't collect a sufficient amount of water when on cool mode to the point where you don't have to drain it? Also is it normal or common for it to sometimes sound louder than normal when the compressor is on?

    Asked by K.

    • Answer Thank you for your inquiry! Yes, it's quite normal for a portable air conditioner like the Insignia™ 250 Sq. Ft. Portable Air Conditioner to not collect much water when it's running in cool mode. This is especially true if the humidity in your environment is low or if the unit is designed to evaporate most of the condensate through the exhaust hose, which many modern models do. In such cases, you might rarely need to drain it, or not at all. On the other hand, it's also common for the unit to sound louder when the compressor kicks in. This noise is typically more noticeable when the AC is working hard to cool a warm room, but it usually quiets down once the desired temperature is reached. If the unit is placed on an uneven or soft surface like carpet, it might amplify the sound. However, unless the noise is unusually loud or sounds abnormal (like rattling or grinding), it's generally not a cause for concern.

  • QuestionBrand new AC has sewage like smell coming from it? Is it faulty or is there something I can do? I’d rather not lug it all the way back to Best Buy and re set it up.

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer Thank you for your inquiry! I'm sorry to hear about the unpleasant smell from your new air conditioner! Here are some steps you can try to address the issue: First, check the drainage to ensure the drain tray is empty and the drainage system is functioning properly, as stagnant water can cause unpleasant odors. Next, inspect and clean the air filters, as dirty filters can harbor mold and bacteria, leading to bad smells. Make sure the unit is properly ventilated, as poor ventilation can cause odors to build up. Run the air conditioner on high for a few hours to see if the smell dissipates, as sometimes new units need to run for a while to clear out any manufacturing residues. Additionally, inspect the unit for any leaks or signs of damage that might be causing the smell. If these steps don't resolve the issue, it might be best to contact Insignia customer support or Best Buy for further assistance. Best Buy has a return and exchange policy that might be helpful if the unit is faulty. I hope this helps! Let me know if you need any more assistance. Keith | Insignia Support

  • QuestionI bought this unit today and they had to lay it on its side in the car. They told me to keep it upright for 24 hours before using it. My question is that it was on its side for only 10 minutes, does it still have to be upright for 24 hours?

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer Hi there. Yes, it's still recommended to keep your Insignia™ Portable Air Conditioner upright for 24 hours before using it. This precaution allows the refrigerant to settle properly, ensuring optimal performance and preventing potential damage. Even though it was on its side for only 10 minutes, it's best to follow the guidelines to avoid any issues. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out.
