Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I think the 35-3/4" width is industry standard exactly to fit exactly 36" wide space, as the other reply to this question noted. Just measured our old 36" fridge, which is to be replaced by this one, and it also measures exactly 35-3/4" wide, so this new one should thankfully fit into our existing space. I guess when they say 36" they mean with 1/8" tolerance either side, so 36" is just easier for contractors to be consistent.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.You'll have about 1/8 inch clearance on either side. The fridge is 35 and 3/4 inches wide, and maintains that width for 28 and 3/4 inches depth. The doors sit just a little wider
