Yes you can! Not matter how it is transported (even upright).... Make sure you have it set upright in place for 24 hours for all oil in compressor to drain to bottom prior to plugging in and running. If you do that.... you will be fine no matter how you transport it.

Make sure you leave the unit standing upright for at least 24 hours before plugging it in.

Probably. Older models could not. However, be SURE to let it stand up overnight if you transport it on the side.
