Yes, it can be transported on its side or back. Let it stand upright 24 hours before you plug it in and start it up, to allow the refrigerant to flow back down to where it's supposed to be. Best Buy employees told me I could move it that way, and appliance delivery people at a different big box store told me the same when I was comparison shopping. Just be sure to leave it sit upright 24 hours afterward. I moved mine lying down and it runs fine, Bought it in late summer 2017 and it's running fine in March 2018. *Note that all these smaller freezers imported from China use isopentane or some other *flammable* refrigerant in them. Move it carefully to avoid damaging anything.*

That being said, it is my understanding (and I'm not a professional) that if you have to transport it in a position other than upright, you should let it stand upright for 24 hours prior to plugging it in.
