I have to replace my current chest freezer because I have it in my garage, in Minnesota, and the cold temperatures killed the freezer (according to the appliance repairman who came out to tell me why the compressor was buzzing a few days ago). I was told that freezers cannot survive in our harsh climate in uninsulated garages or porches, so now I am in a mad dash to replace the freezer before I lose the $400 in groceries I JUST put in it two days ago. You are better off having it in a climate-controlled environment if possible.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.no, it cannot go in the garage if you live in a cold weather state. the owner/user manual does not give any ambient temperature ranges. so i wouldnt trust it to work correctly in cold weather states. most chest freezers are 55 degrees lowest abmient temp rated. a fridge and freezer has to be built to function in cold ambient temps. GE makes one. the low ambient temp is given in the manual i recall its 0 degrees and the max was 109 i think. plus, the GE has a minumimn of 3 inches left around the freezer for set up most are 5 or 6 inches. (i think artic king can be used in cold ambient temp too, but is has a 6 inch clearance requirement) there are only 2 or 3 chest freezer brands that are reasonably priced that can be kept in a cold environment. the market is lacking for this type of product. i feel both of these specifications should be listed under the product info instead of having to go hunting for it. the appliance will not function correctly without proper set up/location-ing.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. We have this is a storage unit that is not climate controlled. No issues with temp and we live in south Alabama.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes it can be put in your garage. Depending on how warm it gets outside your freezer would need to work harder. So in the summer the freezer would run longer to keep food frozen.
