Turn the TV and cable box on with cable remote, wait for a few minutes and it will automatically switch to HDMI. If you turn the Tv off with cable box remote, the next time you turn it on with the cable box remote it will automatically switch to HDMI after a minute. Just wait.

You can set the TV to turn on to the last input used (e.g. cable tv) instead of the home screen. Go to Settings -> System -> Power and select Power On to Last used TV input.
