A:AnswerThe manual lists the following information:
Electrical specifications:
• 20AWG, UL2464 DC cable
• Maximum current for system: 8 amps
• Cable Resistance: 33.9Ω/1 Km
A:AnswerTip sizes:
1. 5.5mm x 2.50mm(white)
2. 5.5mm x 2.10mm(blue)
3. 5.5mm x 1.50mm(black)
4. 4.0mm x 1.70mm(yellow)
5. 3.5mm x 1.35mm(red)
6. 3.0mm x 1.00mm(black)
7. 2.5mm x 0.75mm(yellow)
A:AnswerThe tips included are:
1 White: 5.5/2.5mm (labelled DC5525)
2 Blue: 5.5/2.1mm (labelled DC5521)
3 Black: 5.5/1.5 mm (DC 5515)
4 Yellow 4.0/1.7 (DC4017)
5 Red 3.5/1.35 (DC35135)
6 Black 3.0/1.1 (DC 3011)
7 Yellow 2.5/0.7 (DC2507)
The kit does NOT include the 6.4/4.4 mm connector I need so I am returning it.
However, I want to mention some of the things that Insignia did really well (and some things that could be improved):
PROS:
* This is the only kit I found that included female as well as male tips (an extension cord instead of having to purchase a whole power supply with a longer cord)
* The male tips are all labelled with their size (see my photo)
* The male and female tips are colored coded (there are two pair of black and yellow, but the sizes are different enough that you are unlikely to confuse them).
* The male tips have a small and a larger diameter pin so it is easier to keep the polarity consistent at both ends of the cable
* The female tips have a short pin and a long in to help keep the polarity consistent at both ends of the cable
CONs:
* NONE of the online data sheets or listings mention which tips are included in the set . It is buyer beware. I had to pay for it, wait a week for it to arrive, wait quite a while at their curbside pick up, and realize within 3 minutes that the tip I needed isn't in there. I couldn't see how to return it at the store. I will use their web-site to set up the return after I finish this review/answer.
* The differing pins help maintain the correct polarity, but both pins on Enercell right angle tips are the smaller diameter. They fit on this extension cord, but might not provide a reliable connection. INSIGNIA SHOULD OFFER RIGHT ANGLE TIPS FOR THIS CORD; SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO MOVE YOUR COMPONENT SO FAR FROM THE WALL.
* I don't know if you can see it well in my photo, but the cable ends have a circular lip. The tips fit inside the connector. The Enercell and Adaptaplug tips do fit inside, but I have tips from an old Kensington Universal Laptop power supply that have a circular lip on the tip; therefore, these tips cannot be used on this Insignia extension cable.
* They have 7 pair of tips, but only 5 colors. It would be easier with 7 colors so each tip is unique.
A:AnswerHere are the dimension of the connector for your reference:
Male ends:
1. White: Ø5.5(OD)*Ø2.5(ID)mm, L=29.00+/-0.5mm (excluding pins)
2. Blue: Ø5.5(OD)*Ø2.1(ID)mm, L=29.00+/-0.5mm (excluding pins)
3. Black: Ø5.5(OD)*Ø1.5(ID)mm, L=29.00+/-0.5mm (excluding pins)
4. Yellow: Ø4.0(OD)*Ø1.7(ID)mm, L=28.00+/-0.5mm (excluding pins)
5. Red: Ø3.5(OD)*Ø1.35(ID)mm, L=28.00+/-0.5mm (excluding pins)
6. Black: Ø3.0(OD)*Ø1.1(ID)mm, L=28.00+/-0.5mm (excluding pins)
7. Yellow: Ø2.5(OD)*Ø0.75(ID)mm, L=27.50+/-0.5mm (excluding pins)
Female ends:
L*25 x W*11 (excluding pins), and match for following tip:
1. 5.5mm x 2.50mm(white)
2. 5.5mm x 2.10mm(blue)
3. 5.5mm x 1.50mm(black)
4. 4.0mm x 1.70mm(yellow)
5. 3.5mm x 1.35mm(red)
6. 3.0mm x 1.00mm(black)
7. 2.5mm x 0.75mm(yellow)
A:AnswerNo, This is extension cord only, You will still need an AC adapter with the correct voltage output and your computer must match the male jack to work. It is a great idea, but know what you are purchasing before you buy.
A:AnswerAlso, FYI, the cable is labelled stating that it uses 20AWG wire inside. In all, it says "... [ symbol that looks like RU with the R backwards] AWM 2464 20AWG 80'C 300V VW-1 Fuyu E478679 [symbol that looks like cRU with the R backwards] AWM I/II A 80'C 300V 20AWG FTI ..."
