I have an old Mac that only had two USB ports. So I needed more ports, as well. I have the mouse, keyboard and my Wacon drawing tablet all plugged into this devise. No problems at all. That leaves the USB on the front of the computer available for thumb drives. I bought the Insignia 7 port USB. I added a link to it here. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/insignia-7-port-usb-2-0-hub-black/5633201.p?skuId=5633201
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. As long as you have an operating USB port left on your computer, you can use a hub to add more USB ports for any reason. So one working port on your computer can power your mouse, keyboard, and pen. Personally I prefer using powered hubs that have a small 5 volt power supply with them so there is no danger of running out of useable energy. Without that extra power supply, the power necessary to run whatever you plug into the hub has to be supplied by that operating port on your computer. You may not want to stress it that way. I certainly wouldn't. Know that regardless of whether you buy a USB 2.0 or 3.0 hub, your transfers will be no faster than the slowest link. Your keyboard, mouse and pen ought to do just fine with a 2.0 hub but know that 3.0 is the USB of the future. If you have an operating 3.0 port on your computer, you might consider buying a combination 3.0/2.0 hub; the 2.0 ports for your pen, etc, and some 3.0 ports for flash drives or external hard drives where the faster speed can make a difference. Hope this helps.
