I believe it will protect it from rain, spills, or even accidentally dropping it in water provided you retrieve it right away. Do not let it stay under water for more than a couple of seconds.

No. This is a zippered case- it is a hard sided case which would protect it if dropped and damage during travel, but not geared to water protection.
