No it does not. it's just a bit to big for the case and will not close at all.

No, it will not fit this case. Not unless it is some how shoved into the case and if managed to fit the case will do the damage it is meant to protect.

I just brought this for the new 3ds xl. The 3ds xl does not fit in the case.

Yes. N3ds was designed quite well. Most anything designated as 3dsxl will fit the new n3dsxl
